Hiking on the Appalachian Trail at Gathland State Park

The Gathland State Park is a small park in Maryland. This Park was the property of George Alfred Townsend, a war correspondent of the U.S. civil war.  He built an arch as a monument to war correspondents and his property became a State Park which provides easy access to the Appalachian Trail.

The link to the trail

Beatiful autum woods all the way thru and very few people

The trail is easy and the slopes are gentle in that part of the trail

We decided to walk only two hours, one hour in and one out, we wanted to drive home that day and we still had 8 hours to Mississauga,  Still, in two hours we manged to get our 10,000 steps, our daily goal.  Pretty fast for us.

And back to the beginning.

We made good time, we decide to take a shortcut thru back roads to get home.  Around 8 pm, in a narrow and very dark road a deer jump in front of us.  He hit the car in the right headlight but the light stayed on.  We could not see much in the dark so we drove to the next town where there was enough light to check the damage.  All the passenger side of the car was busted, but the car was drive-able so we came home.  Fortunately the insurance will pay for the damage that is going to be in the thousand s of dollars.  But we are OK.
