A walk around Lexington, Virginia

On our way home, we saw signs on the road that made us decide to make a short visit to Lexington, Virginia.

We started at the visitors centre where they recommended we visit the old house of Stonewall Jackson. A famous confederate officer of the U.S. civil war.

Jackson got his nickname at a battle of Menesses when a General cry to the troops look at Jackson standing like a  Stonewall.  He lived in this house while he was a teacher at the Viginia Military Institute which we visited a little later.

According to the guide, his was a high tech kitchen for that time.  Examples were the stove and the heater in one ofthe following pictures.

His life ended when he was shot by accident by his own troops.

From Jackson's house, we walked through the town to visit the Virginia Military Institute.  Many famous men and women have studied there, including General Marshall of the Marshall Plan.

The museum of the institute has some interesting things

A typical room in the residence.

We found the cadets to be extremely formal and polite.
